Benefit Advice and Carers Rights

Benefit Entitlements

Working out what benefits or tax credits you might be entitled to, is a difficult and complex task. .However we would urge everyone who is caring for someone not to be put off and claim what they are entitled to.

We have trained support workers available to provide information and support on your entitlements. The Carers Service works closely with the Welfare Rights unit based in the Local Authority to ensure Carers and their families receive the benefits they are entitled to.

Home visits and office appointments can be arranged to assist with forms and letters regarding your benefits.

Carers Assessments

Neath Port Talbot Council may be able to provide services to you (as a Carer), or to the person you care for, or put you in touch with other support organisations.

If you are providing (or intend to provide) a “substantial” amount of care on a regular basis then you are entitled to a Carers Assessment.

The purpose of a Carer’s Assessment is to provide you with the opportunity to talk about:

  • Your caring responsibilities
  • How being a carer may have changed your life and
  • What support you think would help make your caring role easier.

Contact the Carers Service on 01639 642277 for more information on your rights as a carer or to access support.
